Lot 194 Browning Superposed Grade 1 Lightning Model Over/Under Shotgun
Browning Superposed Grade 1 Lightning Model Over/Under Shotgun, #97629S8, Two 12 ga. pairs of special steel barrels included; 26-1/2'' vent rib, target beads, 2-3/4'' chamber, SKT/SKT choke; 28'' vent rib, target beads, 2-3/4'' chamber, MOD/Full chokes. The action uses a single underlug as lockup, and features a single selective inertia trigger, non-automatic safety, and selective ejectors. The blued receiver is nicely engraved with Browning scrolls. The two beavertail forends with finger grooves and flat knob buttstock are recently refinished with oil-finished flat surface on ''B'' grade European Walnut, with hand checkering at 20 LPI, no grip cap, and an original Browning ''White Line'' skeet recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14'' x 1-5/8'' x 2''. Gun was made in 1968 by FN in Belgium for Browning. Gun is contained in a later fitted Browning tan Naugahyde case, with two Browning dummy shot shells. Condition is very good to near excellent for an almost 60-year-old combination gun. The wood shows virtually no marks from handling, and despite lots of use, still grips very firmly; there are no splits or chips present. The receiver has a reasonable amount of edgewear on the carry points, and nominal wear to the breech face, but other than the easy opening/closing due to breaking in, it still works well; the gun works well to cycle ammo, closes tightly, and bores are mirror bright. A good all-around shotgun. Est.: $1,900-$2,500. (C&R/PPT)
